Los Consejos para tener éxito - Advice for Being Successful
At the end of a school year, I often ask my students to answer the following question:
What advice do you have for a student who will be starting
Spanish 1 with me next year?
Below is exactly what they said! I hope you find something in the list that helps you start this class on the right foot! If you're ever struggling, this is a great list to come back to too! These students had great advice!
- "always watch the flipped classroom videos and take notes they really help"
- "never give up you can do it! keep practicing. always ask question!"
- "study, work hard, and don't slack. because if you slack you will fail and that isn't fun."
- "The advice I have is to try their best and do ALL homework"
- "Do your work else you'll fall behind"
- "If you stay focused and open minded then Spanish will be fun and easy to attain."
- "Don't procrastinate."

- "Practice everyday. It can as simple as watching a basic video in Spanish. It is easier to learn a new language if you immerse yourself in it as much as possible."
- "Use the website as a great resource because it is very helpful"
- "Turn in all your work. Don't be late for class. Do all projects. Do retakes. Get help. Don't slack off. PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS!"
- "To enjoy your time because it seems like a lot of hard work, but overall it is easy and fun if you take your time and study."
- "Practice outside of class and speak Spanish with your friends."
- "Do all your homework and stay after school."
- "Advice I would give for a student who will be starting Spanish 1 with you next year is to practice as much as you can, and always do your homework. You have to practice in order to understand the language, and doing your homework will save you a lot of hardship. Not doing my homework was a mistake I made a lot this year in Spanish 1, and when I did do it, class was a lot easier, so it is definitely worth it."
- "Do all your homework freshman"
- "Just do your work and practice, practice and practice."
- "Work hard and be confident."
- "To practice everyday!!!!! If not 10 min at least 5 every bit helps."
- "My advise for the student's who will be starting Spanish 1 next year would be to give it a chance and not be afraid to participate. Also to make sure you use the request to re-tests often even when you get a PR- because there's always that chance for a PR or AD."
- "Don't doubt yourself, maybe it's the first time you tried a new language, but you'll get it at the end."
- "Make sure you do your homework please it will help you trust me"
- "I would tell them to practice there vocabulary a lot"
- "Just try your best, never give up because learning a new language isn't easy, participate, practice, and have fun with it."
- "DO YOUR HOMEWORK"
- "Pay attention to everything and never take anything for granted. Also practice daily for at least 15 minutes."
- "If I had any advice for students next year, it would be that you absolutely have to practice outside of class and have to practice out loud. There is no way that you can do well in the class and not."
- "Practice makes perfect. As a student who never really learned Spanish like how I learned this year, you should practice your Spanish once in a while so you will feel confident in speaking, writing, and reading it...I am suggesting that you should practice once in a while, so you can get the information through your head, so for those final exams, evidences, and quizzes you would get a good grade on it because you will know your resources."
- "Stay positive. It will only get harder throughout the year, and this class is one of the best you'll ever have. Don't hate Mrs. Moore when she pushes you and gives you homework every class. She's doing it for a reason. Mrs. Moore is one of the best teachers you'll ever have. You CAN do this. You've got so much support, and a fantastic teacher who cares about how you do. Stick with it."
- "Practice, Practice, Practice..."
- "Do your homework - especially the flipped classroom videos and notes. Do not throw any of your papers away, even after freshman year is over. Keep those buggers throughout high school because you will forget things over the summer and you will need to review and refresh your mind."
- "To not be afraid to participate and to stand out as a speaker. Don't be ashamed of how good you are at Spanish. Just speak and learn and be confident in who you are as a speaker and your skill level."
- "If you have the chance to retake, retake! and come in for help even if you know what your doing."
- "Always watch the flipped classrooms check the website daily and use all of your resources."
- "My advice would be to go for help if you need it and review a lot because it'll help you in the long run. Also learn how to pronounce the words because it gets hard if you don't know."
- "That Spanish does get difficult but to give up is never the answer. If your struggling you should go in for help with Mrs. Moore, get a tutor, practice and speak at any time you can or even re-look at information given to you during class."
